The late Motor City Post

So, I have been busy. Very busy. I have 2 deadlines fist approaching, one, a storyboard project for a short film, the other, the magic book. 2 of my best friends got married this weekend, and I was in the wedding, so this past week between the con and better about updating when we get to Chicago.
The Motor City Comic Con 2008:
Friday, we slept in and headed to the convention about an hour and a half before it opened. We were set up around the corner from the usual gang of trouble makers Jeremy Bastian, David Petersen, and Nate Pride. Continuing around the block of tables next to Nate, my friend Eric Lynch (he has no website that I can find, but I shot a photo of him. The Last photo of this post. go look for his book) set up for the first time. To my immediate left, my buddy Brett Pinson of Boomtown press (our hotel buddy for Chicago; seen pictured below with a few of the convention costume clad attendees) The day was slow; only sold one book, but did sell 4 Last Mupper prints. The framework around my backdrop was popular (Jeremy and Dave ended up copying it that night, improving the design to a new sleeker model) I am going to re-make the framework for Chicago....mine is just too bulky. The one book I did sell was to my first official fan, who had found my books in Previews and had read them and liked them enough to bring Issues one and two to get signed. It made my day to know that people I don't know in the least read and enjoy my work. Afterwards , Amber and I ended up at the local mall scrounging for food, where we ate organic veggie burgers (Amber) and free range all beef hot dogs in a multi-grain bun (me) and purchased tea to brew at home from a fancy tea place.
Saturday was the big day, however it started off very slow. I sold a whopping 13 Last Muppers, a few other prints, and tons of copies of the book. Made table and profit that day alone. Amber got a little crabby early on in the day when the crowds of people got too huge to walk without bumping into anyone. She learned that the convention concession stand deep fried its french fries in the same oil as they did all of their meat products. I had to smuggle out a salad from the green room for her to keep her from biting off rude people's heads. A lovely couple dressed as Jack Sparrow and Wonder Woman came by and talked to me a while about the Last Mupper, they were lovely people, but sadly didn't have the money to buy a print. I shot a photo of them. Another buddy of mine Art Baltazar came by a few times and chatted(he dressed up as Batman on Sunday look at the photo), as well as Jane Irwin and her Husband Paul Sizer. From what I hear, everyone did quite well. That night after the convention we tried to go out to dinner with Art and our friend Mike Boccianowski as well as Brett and a bunch of his friends. But Art and Mike dropped out on us, and then when we got to the bar there was nothing for Amber to eat; so we also dropped out and just headed home and grabbed some grub there.
Sundays usually are slow, but it turned out to be much better than friday. in the end I sold 22 copies of the Last Mupper (Including one for Wonder Woman and Jack Sparrow who had won the costume contest, and sent someone around for them with the prize money to buy a print.) and a lot of copies of the book (I do have a final count somewhere). I made my costs back twofold, and still made profit after that! Amber and I celebrated by going out to see a movie at the local theater (Prince Caspian even though we went to go see Speed Racer....it was too long of a wait) And that concludes my late Motor City Post! a.k.a. Jesse Procrastinating and Not Doing His Commissions Post!
